Restrictions for the Label Waste Prevention Function

The Label Waste Prevention function cannot be used in the following conditions:

•	When the optional dispenser unit or linerless cutter unit is installed

•	When using linerless labels or journal paper

•	When using media whose labels are not at the leading edge, such as media with I-marks not positioned at the leading edge of the label (However, wristbands and koDakara can be used)

•	When using RFID tags with inlay positioned within less than 2 mm (0.08") from the leading edge of the media

•	When using media with back side pre-printing, which is positioned within less than 2 mm (0.08") from the leading edge of the media, and in the center of the horizontal direction of the label (passing position of label top sensor) (However, media that has I-marks can be used.)

Precautions When Using the Label Waste Prevention Function

Note the following precautions when using the Label Waste Prevention function.

•	Keep out of direct sunlight. This function may not operate correctly.

•	Confirm that printing can be done on the first label. This function does not operate correctly if the media is torn, is cut in the middle, or if the label is peeled off so only the liner is left.

•	Note the following precautions when loading media.

For Direct Thermal Mode

For Thermal Transfer Mode

◦	An error occurs if the leading edge of the media extends too far from the media discharge outlet. Align the leading edge of the media with the media discharge outlet.

◦	Rewind the ribbon several turns in thermal transfer mode. When the Label Waste Prevention function is in use, backfeed returns the ribbon that has been rewound one time to the print head. When this happens, rewinding the ribbon in advance can prevent the used ribbon from being used to print again.

1.	Open the top cover.

2.	Open the ribbon unit toward the front.

3.	Close the ribbon cover , turn the dial to rewind the carbon ribbon a few times .

▪	Be sure to rewind the ribbon so that it is centered on the ribbon core.

4.	Close the top cover.

•	Use the default value for [Finisher Feed]. If you change [Finisher Feed], operation of the Label Waste Prevention function is not guaranteed.

•	Disable [Auto Measure]. If you enable [Auto Measure], operation of the Label Waste Prevention function is not guaranteed.

•	When using media with a gap of more than 3 mm (0.12"), and having enabled [Check Media Size], you cannot use the Label Waste Prevention function.

•	When using RFID tags, writing to the inlay may fail if the adjusted value sent by the <PO> command or configured in [Offset], [Pitch], or [Label Top Sensor] in [Printing] > [Advanced] > [Adjustments] menu is too large.

About Feeding When Using the Label Waste Prevention Function

When the Label Waste Prevention function is enabled, you do not need to tap [FEED] in Offline mode before printing. Tapping [FEED] feeds media to align with the print start position even when the Label Waste Prevention function is enabled.

The operation when [FEED] is tapped is as follows.

¹If the length of the label, when the media is set, is shorter than the distance from the leading edge of the media to the media sensor

The print waiting position differs according to the print mode. The following figure shows the standard-length label and short-length label for the tear-off mode.
