Conditions That Trigger Paper End

The conditions that trigger paper end vary depending on the operation of the product, and the sensor type selected.

If I-mark (reflective type) or Gap (transmissive type) is specified as the paper end sensor, then the paper end is detected according to the following conditions.

You can select the sensor type for paper end in the [Printing] > [Advanced] > [Paper End] > [Sensor Type] menu.

If [None] is specified as the paper end sensor, then the paper end is not detected.

Conditions That Trigger Paper End in the Feeding Operation

•	When using I-mark for the paper-end sensor

A paper-end occurs if the no-paper condition persists even after the I-mark sensor still detects the no-paper condition after 15 mm (0.59") has been fed.

•	When using Gap for the paper-end sensor

A paper-end occurs if the no-paper condition persists even after the gap sensor still detects the no-paper condition after the distance set as the detection distance has been fed.

Conditions That Trigger Paper End in the Printing Operation

1.	The paper end sensor detects a no-paper condition at the position where feeding is done to the distance detected in the following table.

2.	If the amount of printing remaining is less than the distance between the print head position and paper end sensor - the paper end distance shown in the table above, a paper end error occurs after completing the output of 1.

If the amount of printing remaining is more than the distance between the print head position and paper end sensor - the paper end distance shown in the table above, a paper end error occurs right after detecting the paper end, and the printer will reprint after clearing the paper end error.

Select in [Printing] > [Advanced] > [Paper End] menu, or specify by command.

If a paper end error is detected while printing, operation varies depending on the amounts of printing and media remaining when the error was detected.

The amount of media remaining can be calculated as follows:

Amount of media remaining = distance between print head position and paper end sensor -paper end distance

(2) Distance between the print head position and paper end sensor

(3) Paper end sensor

(4) Paper end distance

(5) Amount of media remaining

•	When the Amount of Printing Remaining Is More Than the Amount of Media Remaining

If the amount of printing remaining is more than the amount of media remaining when a paper end error is detected, the product cannot finish the print job. Printing stops immediately and a paper end error occurs.

•	When the Amount of Printing Remaining Is Less Than the Amount of Media Remaining

If the amount of printing remaining is less than the amount of media remaining, the product will finish the print job and a paper end error will occur.

(5) Amount of printing remaining

If there are multiple sheets between the print head and paper end sensor when a paper end error is detected, a paper end error will occur only after finishing the label currently being printed.

In dispense & print mode, if a paper end error is detected while feeding labels printed, paper end may happen at the point that only the beginning of the label is printed. To continue the printing operation after an error, eject the partially printed label to start printing. Reprinting starts by printing the interrupted print item on the next label.
